General

Bankomia is a place where cryptocurrency and banking services live together, combining a cryptocurrency wallet, exchange and virtual bank account functionality. The easiest place to buy, sell, and manage your cryptocurrency portfolio.

In general, a cryptocurrency is a digital asset, similar to and including Bitcoin, that can be exchanged within a peer-to-peer economic system that uses cryptography to verify and secure transactions.

Most cryptocurrencies are decentralized by a distributed network of computers spread around the world, also known as nodes. This is why cryptocurrencies cannot be controlled by a single entity and transactions may occur directly between users without the need to rely on a third-party intermediary, but the degrees of decentralization are varying since some of the cryptocurrencies are designed and run by private companies.

Some of the most well known cryptocurrencies are Ethereum, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, Zcash, etc, each designed for a particular function. The costs for cryptocurrency transactions are low in comparison to current conventional monetary transfers, but they are also irreversible meaning that once said through an error, the funds cannot be withdrawn.

Altcoins (alternative coins) are all cryptocurrencies that are not Bitcoin. Currently, there are thousands of altcoins, each providing different usage of the blockchain. However, as many of the platforms are still in development, only a few of the altcoins have a real-world application and have become popular.

The core component for most cryptocurrencies is a technology called Blockchain that consists of a linear chain of multiple linked blocks that are cryptographically secured. Each block contains, among other things, a list of recent transactions and a reference to the block that came immediately before it. This is where the name (block-chain) is coming from. Blockchain keeps a permanent record of all confirmed transactions, working as a decentralized digital ledger.

The ledger is distributed across all the nodes in the network, making it highly resistant to modification. If a part of the system is attacked, the rest of the nodes continue to run the network. One of the main parts of any blockchain is the block verification processes, including Proof-of-Work, Proof-of-Stake, Proof-of-Bandwidth, etc. That allows the network to run automatically and securely. This comes into play when a transaction is made, as this is broadcasted to the whole network for verification and approval.

A cryptocurrency wallet is used to securely store, send, and receive cryptocurrencies.
As the crypto-world uses different Blockchain technologies, it is a good idea to have a multi-currency wallet.

Cryptocurrency wallet has one or more public addresses assigned to it that act as cryptocurrency account numbers, and can be used to receive that particular asset.
Be careful not to mix these public addresses, as this can result in a suspended transaction or monetary loss.
It is important to note that your funds are actually stored in the Blockchain, and the online wallet only functions as a means of access.

Always download cryptocurrency wallet software only from official and original sources/websites!
